The Peacemaker Program Inc., is offering "Basic Mediation Training" for those who wish to VOLUNTEER with our program.

Tuesday, September 18 - Friday, September 21, 2012.

See below for more information about being a volunteer and stay tuned for more information on the training.

Our Dispute Resolution volunteers, including mediators and arbitrators, are highly-trained and certified practitioners that work closely with The Peacemaker Program, Inc. to provide essential services to the community. For example, to become a Community Mediator, a volunteer must:

  • Complete an initial training of between 30 and 40 hours
  • Complete an apprenticeship averaging one year, working with experienced mediators
  • Complete an additional 10-15 hours of supplemental training
  • Be certified in accordance with standards set by the New York State Unified Court System
  • Maintain their certification through yearly practice and training

Additional opportunities become available as a volunteer's expertise and experience advance, making family disciplines (such as Parent-Child Mediation and Divorce Mediation) and other specialties (such as Lemon Law Arbitration) attainable over time. Many of our volunteers continue to practice for years or even decades, becoming extremely proficient and taking on continually more challenging cases and disciplines.

There are no general educational or employment requirements in order to become a Dispute Resolution volunteer. An interested person must express interest, including a willingness to make a substantial time commitment. They then undergo the process of becoming a volunteer with The Peacemaker Program, Inc.Dispute Resolution Volunteers
